This is my Hong Kong | Spring weather in Hong Kong means the odd thunderstorm
Hong Kong Weather in the spring.
I have lived in Hong Kong for 47 years and I have seen it all when it comes to the weather and I am always amused these days when a single thunderstorm is now “absolute proof” that global warming and climate change are going to have a catastrophic effect on our planet… yeah, a single thunderstorm.

This is my Hong Kong | how about this for a wild thunderstorm that came out of nowhere in the 3rd week of April 2019 | this is taken from my balcony
Shown above are for me two classic images of how variable the weather can be in April and you know what, April is always the same in Hong Kong, we are coming out of spring into summer so we can have mild dry days and hot muggy days with rain. It happens.
I can be mildly critical of the Hong Kong Observatory who quite often miss the formation of thunderstorms (which they call an upper air disturbance by the way!) - the one shown in the image formed very rapidly and was missed by the weather boffins who for me should rely on the tried and trusted method of sticking their head out of the window, in this case they would have seen that day had turned to night.
Makes for a great image though!
Amazingly we had not one but two crazy thunderstorms in 2 days, the 2nd one being somewhat more dramatic than the one in the image as we had violent rain as well…..
…….. and at the risk of sounding boring… this is normal for Hong Kong in April
