13 months of saving, 13 months of reading reviews, 13 months of changing my mind on what camera I should buy.... finally it is mine!
Nary a twinge of buyers guilt after dropping US$3,100 (which included 2 spare batteries and a large extra sd memory card) on this amazing camera.... I could have gotten it a little cheaper but the place I got it is known for their reliability and willingness to go the extra mile if something goes wrong.
.... and yes, it is cheaper in the USA than Hong Kong!
For an in depth review of the Sony RX 1r read this one by Duncan Davidson
It is 13 months since I first got the idea that I should trade up from my Olympus XZ - 1 Digital Camera (which I got to trade up from using the IPhone 4s!) - I get fairly decent images from the Olympus but it is terrible for night shots and there was just something lacking with the images and given my passion for photography I felt the time was right to get a decent camera.
In the old days of film I used to use a Hasselblad - ok it was a while back but I am not a complete numpty when it comes to taking pictures, I will relearn all the stuff I used to know pretty sharpish!
I have talked to many professional photographers (clients!) and read a gazillion reviews and at the end of the day it came down to one thing and one thing only. Size.
Yes, size.... this is a camera you can fit into a jacket pocket and is not much bigger than my Olympus so I can carry it around on tour without looking like too much of a plonker, if you combine the amazingly small size and out of this world images... then that made the decision easy.
I am aware it is a fixed lens but boy what a lens and I am so darn excited about this camera. I am lucky enough to be on the streets of Hong Kong every day so great image opportunities present themselves all the time and now I have a camera that will do justice to those moments.
Gosh, I can't wait to get started.......
I do personal walking tours around Hong Kong, I am on the streets every day and I have a somewhat interesting perspective of this wonderful city I have called my home for 38 years. My private walking tours are perfect for visitors who want a detailed overview of Hong Kong prior to exploring on their own and for people who are only here for a day or two who want to make the most of their limited time here.
Many clients book me for their first full day in Hong Kong, they get to see the best that Hong Kong has to offer + a crash course on our wonderful public transport system and then they go exploring for the rest of their stay armed with step by step instructions and recommendations from me....
I am available at very short notice, I get many last minute bookings and may well be available even if you arrive in Hong Kong without making plans! so please check my calendar, if it says I am free then I am available to do a tour!! Simply send me a message for a prompt reply
...oh, and if you book a tour then you are booking a tour with me, I do not employ other guides.
