Hong Kong Tours | The world of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Company

The fag man lurketh, the pointless task of cleaning our wonderful harbour and Garden Road in Central

11am in the morning

11am in the morning

Jewellery companies around the world would kill to know the secrets of Chow Tai Fook.. this is a home grown Hong Kong company and they are now the largest jewellery company in the world.. this is one of their stores 100 yards from the Peninsula Hotel on Nathan Road in TST, Kowloon.

It is 11am in the morning and this large store is packed with buyers from Mainland China who have a thing for 999 Gold (pure) and now diamonds.

In a radius of about 3 blocks in Mongkok just up the road they have 11 stores!

Simply incredible.

This is the fag man, he is not human

Apparently Hong Kong is now the "cleanest" city in Asia when it comes to smoking and it would appear that this cardboard cutout is responsible... I have to confess, in the past 2 1/2 years I have not actually seen one of these creatures who lurk everywhere ready to pounce on smokers lighting up in the wrong place.

Do not be fooled by the image, based on my observations of the manpower of similar Government Departments the "Inspector" is liable to be mid 50's, portly and a face and demeanor of a British Bulldog.

A pointless and thankless task

A pointless and thankless task

I doubt our Government is serious about the horrible rubbish problem we have in our harbour, we have a beautiful harbour but these days it can be a real eyesore and my understanding is that Mainland Chinese vessels are responsible, they simply dump trash into the harbour as they pass through. (makes you wonder why they choose the Harbour to dump rubbish?)

Amazingly this tiny little vessel has the contract to clean the harbour and it is pointless, our harbour is huge and one small vessel is simply not enough (I have only ever seen one vessel for as far as the eye can see).

Something needs to be done as for people travelling on the Star Ferry it is not the image one expects.

I am now into street / road views - this is Garden Road close to the Peak Tram Terminal with St. Johns Cathedral on the right.

Another street scene - this road crossing is very busy and perfect for people watching - it is at the back of HSBC headquarters in Central on the Island.

We live under the flight path of planes landing at our International Airport.... makes for some interesting shots.
