The expensive car and even more expensive vanity plate.
April 2nd 2020 | Car Number Plate - No. - 9 Number Plate sold for US$1,666,666 in Hong Kong
Car Number Plate cost HK$13,000,000 or US$1,666,666 - it is number 3 on the 50 most expensive number plates in Hong Kong | Rolls Royce Cars in Hong Kong
Rolls Royce cars are pretty common on the streets of Hong Kong and always have been historically.
The old model Rolls Royce Phantom ie prior to 2019 is roughly US$1,230,000 in Hong Kong, the no. 9 vanity plate or licence plate cost the owner US$1,666,666 so the package cost US$2,896,666!!
How crazy is that!
Whilst this is an expensive package it is not the most expensive, we have quite a lot of Pagani cars from Italy that cost US$3 - US$5 million!! and some of these well off chaps have two of them! no complaints ever from me, it is their money and Hong Kong is one of those places where flaunting your wealth is a blood sport! … brilliant.

The Luxwood three house family compound at the Peak
April 2nd 2020 | 3 Houses, Luxwood, 35 Barker Road, the Peak, Hong Kong | Each house roughly 9,997 sq ft
The 3 white houses in the background form the Luxwood compound owned by property tycoon Lee Shau-kee of Henderson Land. (who is worth about US$27 Billion) I took this image in March 2018 and as of today April 3rd 2020, the houses are still not occupied and all three of them are covered in bamboo scaffolding, not sure what happened, perhaps the finished product was not up to scratch? and remedial work was required……
Honestly the project seems cursed considering they bought the site for only US$233 Million in 2010, I reckon each house is now worth around US$170 million each, but remember this is a family compound.
The story regarding the project is fascinating.
It really is a Crazy Rich Asians Story.
Despite all of the issues that Hong Kong has had in the past year, prices of property at the Peak in Hong Kong seem strangely unaffected mainly because there is limited supply but huge demand.
As you might expect most of the property at the Peak has been snapped up by Mainland Chinese Billionaires, in fact just a short walk away from this property is the new under construction mega compound for Chinese Billionaire Jack Ma at 22 Barker Road. I imagine security will be beefed up along Barker Road.

Remy Martin Cognac, Hong Kong US$7,950
April 2nd 2020 | Remy Martin Cognac - Only US$7,950 for this bottle
I have to say that this is a rather lovely looking bottle, a work of art no less and even though I do not drink alcohol and if I had the means I would buy this and simply display it in the living room.
Ever since I can remember, Hong Kong Chinese have had a thing for Cognac and particularly Remy Martin and I assume the reason is it signifies economic and social success and it is also safe to assume they like the taste as well.
It is not unusual to go into a fancy bar, night club and fancy restaurant and see a drinks cabinet with 50 fancy bottles of cognac with the name of the bottles owner on a label hanging around the bottle neck or a an inscription somewhere on the bottle with a black marker pen!
These days, as well as Cognac, fine whisky has become popular with some bottles going for a large wedge, a bottle of 60 year-old 1926 Macallan whisky went for over US$1 Million recently, not a drink you can get in your average bar.
and I am proud (!) to say that 2 bottles of this whisky have been sold at auction in Hong Kong for US$1 Million per bottle.

Serviced Apartments at KII Artus at Victoria Dockside
April 2nd 2020 | Expensive Serviced Apartments, KII Artus at Victoria Dockside
With rentals ranging from US$7,000 per month to US$45,000 per month you have to be pretty minted to live here, the wife and I fancy the US$45,000 per month apartment, great views of Victoria Harbour and the Fortnum and Mason store is 5 minutes walk away… awesome.
This complex opened in late 2019 and is already the place to live on a short term basis, the previous king of serviced apartments in Hong Kong was at Four Seasons Place, operated by the Four Seasons Hotel but Hong Konger’s started to shun the place when it was apparent that most of the tenants were Chinese Millionaires and Billionaires who apparently lowered the tone of the place.
I also imagine a lot of our young wealthy socialites (both male and female) will rent these apartments for a month or two at a time for discreet liaisons, it is hard to have any sort of privacy in Hong Kong but security is pretty tight here.
Failing that they can always rent a room at the amazing Rosewood Hotel which is part of the complex! certainly a little cheaper, the view is the same as well.
Hong Kong Hotels - The Rosewood Hotel + Apartments, TST, Kowloon, Hong Kong
Suite, approx 1,250sqft around HK$28,000 per night (US$3,600)

Deborah Valdez - Hung and that pink Rolls Royce Phantom
April 2nd 2020 | Deborah Valdez - Hung, socialite at the top of the food chain
Without a doubt the most visible car in Hong Kong, this was a trade up as she used to have a pink Ferrari, I mean seriously, it is enough to make a grown man weep.
Three redeeming features
Deborah who is Mexican is absolutely gorgeous
her car reminds me of Lady Penelope (of the Thunderbirds show) and her FAB 1 Rolls Royce
her husband Stephen has a brilliant collection of awesome cars

Deborah’s husband Stephen is best described as flamboyant but I really love his collection of cars, two are shown above, you cannot really see the paint but these are NOT normal car paints, the cars sparkle when the sun is out, the Bentley on the left has gold flecks in the red paint.!
If you are interested in the life and times of Deborah Valdez - Hung and Stephen Hung then type their names into Google for the 2 million plus results.
Seriously how dull Hong Kong would be without them.
