Tours by Locals Hong Kong | MTR (Subway Co.) Public Service Messages, they can very, very odd
The MTR Corp. (Subway Company) is another Hong Kong organisation that somehow gets it’s Public Service Messages totally wrong.
I am not complaining at all as it is always a source of great amusement to those of us in Hong Kong that actually bother to read them and on this particular message you cannot blame a translation issue as the problem is the image itself.
Quite frankly, crime on Hong Kong’s fabulous subway system is always very low, you almost never see Policemen in the subway and come to think of it hardly any staff at platform level (where you actually get on the train)
Click on the link below for some of the reasons as to why crime on the Hong Kong Subway is so low, the study was from 1991 but most of the comments remains very valid today.
….. anyway….
Take a look at the image below | Hong Kong has had a bit of an issue for sometime with a crime called upskirt photography as you can see… I bet Hong Kong has more steep escalators than any city in the world and in the summer months when summer dresses are worn, there is a real problem.
The problem with the image is that the young lady actually has a smile on her face as if she is enjoying the attention which is NOT the case and in general our escalators are very crowded which makes it a lot harder to detect the crime, the chance of seeing one guy with a phone camera “upskirting” a single lady on a deserted escalator is like a gazillion to one!
I just wish that organisations that do these messages actually thought more carefully about them and any potential impact particularly when they get it wrong, sometimes I just think they are being far too clever and are more concerned with making the adverts look good with a high production value, actual reality simply does not matter.
