Award Winning Private Tours in amazing Hong Kong | Former British Colony from 1841 - 1997
….. and being English and a native English speaker we should have no communication issues!
A lot of people have forgotten that Hong Kong was a British Colony for 156 years from 1841 to 1997 and as such a lot of foreigners have made Hong Kong their home over the years and they are just as much a part of Hong Kong culture and just as local as any local born Chinese person, I have lived here under British rule for 25 years and I have lived here under Chinese rule for 22 years so I do have a pretty fair insight into Hong Kong culture and not forgetting that an awful lot of my wife's family are local Hong Kong Chinese and my wife is a local and her first language is Cantonese.

My awesome camera, Sony RX 1r Mark 2 with a 42.4 mp sensor and Carl Zeiss full frame lens
Here is the best tip I can give you | if you have a big expensive camera and a couple of lenses, bring them with you to Hong Kong, it really is worth the effort
Over the years I have helped many Professional Photographers get the best out of their trip to Hong Kong but perhaps not in the way you think….. I want to make this quite clear, I am NOT a Professional Photographer and make no claims in that respect. I am strictly an enthusiastic amateur with a great camera and a good eye and I have a passion for photographing cars which is not a popular subject matter.
My father was the same and he got me into photography as a young child in Hong Kong and he gifted me a Hasselblad Film Camera which really got me interested in photography but my interest fluctuated and I did not really start taking it seriously until I became a Private Tour Guide in 2011 and it wasn’t until I got my first Sony Full Frame Digital Camera in 2014 that I went wow! and I was hooked - you can see my images on Flickr here.
I am somewhat prolific as a photographer but please note that I know virtually NOTHING about the mechanics of taking a photograph, my fabulous camera is set on AUTO mode and that never changes, if you are looking for someone to teach you how to take a photograph then you have come to the wrong place.
I have one camera and one camera only (shown towards the bottom of the page) and by my own admission I am a bit of a whizz at getting the best out this camera, the Sony RX 1r Mark 2 | it is not a cheap camera, with a few accessories it lists for roughly US$4,000 in Hong Kong but it is a great street camera and is awesome at taking images of cars travelling at high speed.
My Private Photography Tour of Hong Kong has 3 options
you give me a list of places in Hong Kong you would like to visit to take photographs and I will guide you there
you let me pick and choose suitable places to visit and photograph
or a combination of both
I am also more than happy to lug your camera equipment around and act as an assistant, I want you to get the best out of your Private Photography Tour | oh, and I do day tours, night tours and a combination of both.
It makes no difference to me what level of expertise you have or whether you use a Nikon D5 or a phone camera, I am happy to help | assist in anyway photography wise whether you are a Professional Photographer or you have just bought your first digital camera, just don’t ask me any technical questions or how to take a panoramic image on an IPhone!
Pricing is no different to any of my other tours and the price list is above or simply go to the price page which is listed on the menu at the top of the page.
I hope that by viewing my 100,000 + images on FLICKR you will see just how diverse Hong Kong is, frankly it is a photographers dream location and after living for 47 years in Hong Kong I am great location scout!
Photography and working with images runs in my family by the way, our 3 boys all work in the imaging field and are all photographers as well and they all have some degree of fame!, all 3 of our son’s were born and raised in Hong Kong, our oldest lives in London and the other 2 live in Hong Kong.
Jordan our oldest son does incredible work with colourising images, he owns the company Dynamichrome
Jacob our middle son works in an Advertising Agency owned by a publicly listed Hong Kong Restaurant Group as a Creative Executive
Jack our youngest son is interning and doing creative | digital work and has his own website showcasing his photography talent
Finally, if you are looking for someone to teach how to get the best out of your camera | camera phone in Hong Kong I am more than happy to introduce a great friend of mine who has an amazing knowledge of camera’s and camera techniques.
No matter what “camera” you use to take pictures, I am happy to help in anyway I can

Finally - I do not mince words, I tell you what it is really like in Hong Kong and why you should not believe everything you read in the press!
I naturally have some limitations and I like to be upfront about them.... I absolutely do not look like George Clooney but have been called “fat George Clooney” by the wife, I am terrible at speaking Cantonese and no, I do not have a posh English accent, I amble rather than walking like a kitted out 25 year old trail runner in spandex, I am not a foodie in any shape or form but having eaten in well over a thousand Chinese restaurants means I have an opinion, I cannot deconstruct for you the fine details of a perfect Wonton soup (and why would you do that anyway!), I am not a tree and plant expert but I can recognise a car from it’s profile or engine noise half a mile away and no, I cannot get you into the China Club, primarily because I am not a member, I am not an award winning journalist or professional (whatever that means) and I do not have a Board of Advisors but my best friends are the best private tour guides in Hong Kong and I am absolutely not in any shape or form an old stuffed shirt.
