My 5 favourite People Images I have taken in Hong Kong

I am a pretty average photographer with a great camera and I wish I could take images like those shown on Flickr Explore or on the National Geographic website but I don’t and that’s that.

I love sunlight as much as the next person but I prefer to take the shot no matter what the weather conditions.. quite often my images reflect exactly what you will see on an average day in Hong Kong and quite often it is cloudy | gloomy, in a nutshell you are seeing Hong Kong through my eyes.

In addition please bear in mind modern Hong Kong has been around since 1841 it is dirty | grimy and it suffers with urban pollution, if I had to wait for the right light and spotless surroundings I would never take a photograph and I try very hard not to manipulate the image.. what you see is what you get.

That being said, I am also very realistic, for me I really love only about 50 non car images out of 40,000 non car images I have taken and I learnt a long time ago that photography is blind luck, I could increase the odds of some great images if I sat in the Peninsula Hotel Lobby for 6 hours but that 6 hours in one spot is reserved for my car photography.

A case in point is my favourite image out of my 114,000+ images (including cars) - it was taken in the Peninsula Hotel lobby, I was in there with my guests to use the facilities and get a bit of historical context when this gaggle of extraordinarily beautiful young ladies wafted through the amazing lobby, I whipped my camera out and the rest is history as they say!! I could be in the Penininsula Hotel lobby every day for 10 years and not get a similar shot!

The sad lady on the Subway

The lovely, sad I think, young lady on the MTR (Subway) - she was not looking at the camera and turned her head as I took the image, it is a haunting image.
